At Sheering, our History curriculum is designed to help pupils understand the complexity of the past, the diversity of human experience and how history shapes the world we live in today. Through carefully sequenced learning from Year 1 to Year 6, children build a strong and connected knowledge of significant events, civilisations and individuals in Britain and across the wider world.
We teach pupils to think like historians – asking perceptive questions, examining evidence, recognising different viewpoints and developing thoughtful interpretations of the past. Each topic includes opportunities to explore key concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity and difference.
Historical enquiry and rich discussion are at the heart of our approach. Visits, workshops and handling of primary sources enhance curiosity and deepen understanding. We ensure that all pupils, including those with SEND, access the full history curriculum and make meaningful progress in their knowledge and historical thinking.
Our aim is for every child to leave Sheering with curiosity, respect for different cultures and a sense of how the past influences the future – well-prepared for the next stage of their learning.
